Training Log

From my training spreadsheet recording my daily training data- I watched my graphs as they developed which is pretty typical for a numbers person πŸ˜€

One milestone that became a goal again late in the piece was to crack 10,000km.

I cracked the 10,000 with week to go, by doing not that many more Kim’s in February than I had originally planned.

I learned a lot of things about myself and strategies over the last 9 months. I  overtrained relative to my cycling background and base  and paid the price of an injury that fortunately corresponded with the August lockdown, so had to not cycle much anyway. I was forced to rest and get it right for best part of a month, just after cracking my first and only 140 km continuous ride.

A valuable lesson in many many ways. Physically and mentally.

Having positive thoughts is always good. My music has been helpful when I just wanted to forget about Kms  and simply get into the moment,  and think about nature around me and enjoy, and to actually sing to myself so thank goodness I was alone most of the time  πŸ˜€. I was mentored by a friend recently about getting into Tour Mode. I may talk more about that sometime. But basically if feeling a bit off, don’t just toughen up and keep going as is my personality and many of us, better often to rest, hydrate and often you will find that you actually will do more in the day and feel better afterwards.

I have never been into  hydrating and that has improved as I much more conscious of the risks caused by dehydration, both short and long term risks. The injury was due to lack of water intake and lack of stretching. The stretching is also no in my DNA and still a work on. The injury also caused me to thing about a change of strategies. From Long continuous days, to days broken up in to two or more components. For my body once I get over 80 km two regularly the last part to say 100km is hard work. I plan therefore to achieve 120km daily averages but but doing it in two, three or maybe sessions. This will forever me to rest, drink and eat. Least that’s the Strategy ! Have a look at trading stats below from my spreadsheet. drag and open the graphs for better view of the details.
